It has two major divisions:

Central nervous system

  • The central nervous system includes the brain and spinal cord

Peripheral nervous system

  • Involves all other neural elements such as eyes, ears, skin, and other "sensory receptors"

Neurologists:

  • Medical doctors who specialize in this field

  • They are trained to diagnose and treat neurological disorders that affect the central, peripheral, and autonomic nervous systems.

Including but not limited to:

  • Strokes

  • Alzheimer's disease

  • Parkinson's disease

  • Tremors

A variety of diagnostic tests are used to identify and treat neurological disorders including:

  • CT scans

  • Lumbar punctures (spinal taps)

Neurological disorders can be managed by neurologists using:

  • Prescription medication

  • Physical therapy

  • Other types of therapy

  • Providing guidance on lifestyle changes

In conclusion, neurology is a critical field of medicine that deals with the diagnosis, treatment, and management of disorders of the nervous system. It is a complex and challenging specialty that requires a deep understanding of the nervous system and its numerous disorders. Neurologists play a vital role in managing conditions that impact the brain and nervous system, significantly contributing to the overall well-being and quality of life of their patients.
